FAQ: 2020 Timmy Awards

Tech in Motion's Annual Timmy Awards are back this year, in a way you have never experienced them before.

While the Timmys were created in 2015 to meet the need to honor companies who make work fun, inclusive and engaging for technologists, over time the program has evolved into a community of its own. Attracting a massive local and national following eager to see who’s crowned the “best in tech” year over year, the 6th Annual Timmy Awards will not disappoint despite 2020's challenges.

With the support of founder Motion Recruitment, we are thrilled to continue this year's program with a few changes to not only protect the health and safety of our participants but to recognize the incredible resiliency, agility and innovation our communities have demonstrated in 2020.

"For the past five years, we've honored tech companies and managers that go above and beyond to inspire innovation and create outstanding work environments for their tech teams," said Mandy Walker, Director of Marketing at Tech in Motion and Motion Recruitment. “In a year marked by such unprecedented challenges and uncertainties, we know just how critical these efforts have become for startups, managers, and enterprises alike. Although things will look different, we could not be more excited to highlight those who rose to the occasion – lifting up their employees and their communities – in our 6th Annual Timmy Awards.”

What's New in 2020?

For the first time in our 6-year history, we will not be hosting in-person awards ceremonies across North America. Instead, we’ve pivoted to an entirely digital experience with new award categories, more cities, opportunities for local AND national recognition, and a first-of-it's kind virtual celebration.

Two Brand New Awards

The Best Tech for Good Award will recognize those leveraging technology to connect, support, inform or lift up our communities amid current global challenges and uncertainties. Whether through a product or service, winners of this category successfully answered the call to serve, using technology to organize solutions, improve quality of life, and help others adapt to our current reality.

The Best Tech Enterprise Employer Award celebrates an enterprise-level employer that fosters technological growth, inclusion, and invention at all levels. Whether marked by a high volume of tech hiring, impressive retention rate, world class employer satisfaction ratings, or unanimous approval of leadership – top enterprise employers go above and beyond to keep their tech talent engaged. Recipients of this award leverage cutting-edge technology tools, encourage creative thinking and champion professional development and work-life flexibility.

More Opportunities for Recognition

As usual, all of this year's finalists will compete for the Regional Community Favorite title in their respected category and city, voted on and selected by you, the local tech community.

New this year, Regional Community Favorites will advance in consideration for a National Timmy Award, selected and presented by our expert panel of judges. This year’s panel will evaluate and score all Community Favorites based on answers provided in their nomination, those with the highest average score will win.
